Role of the member of workers association

A multi- faceted role has to be carried out by the Betriebsrat member. These members are specially privileged members upon whom the workers put in their faith. They have to be answerable to the workers for their actions. The fundamental requirement for such demanding job profile is updated knowledge and information. There are always new innovations, new versions and editions. Many things get eliminated as they become outdated or something better replaces them. One has to keep oneself updated on them, in order to offer up-to-date solutions. He is required to know federal acts, law, rules and regulations, company policies, economic status, workers adopted laws, regulations, safety regulations, collective agreements and company agreements etc. his duties include handling social issues, designing the work and the infrastructure, human resources policies like layoffs and appointments, as well as take care of economic matters such as development of a social or organizational changes. These counselors are a bridging point for many activities. They maintain a work flow. Carrying out those responsibilities in very efficient manner is very much essential and desired. Only a well informed person will be in a position to carry them out with more ease and comfort. The counselors are trained from time to time to carry out his duties with ease and more appropriately.

There are many other functions to be performed by them. Good listening skills will always go a long way. This helps the management personnel in conflict resolving. But there are some situations when things go way beyond, and then there is dire need of mediation. Betriebsrat mediation is an alternative tool for conflict resolution and becoming increasingly important in the work environment. Mediation can resolve conflicts in advance. The conflict resolution be achieved involving both the parties, thus it can be viable and sustainable for longer time. The involved parties can find trustful cooperation. Seminar for imparting updated knowledge is one of the major functions of Betriebsrat. The information will be given through compact and versatile first-class lectures by speakers. In addition to the lectures one has the opportunity to mingle with other councils and executives and exchange ideas and tips of their own work in a collegial atmosphere.

But the most basic function is to represent the voice of the workers in the meetings and make their point of view hear. Looking after well being of the employees is the prime focus of all the activities carried out by these members.
